Children's Dentistry

We Offer Gentle Touch Children's Dentistry

Our team goes out of their way to make your child's visits special and show them how much fun dentistry can be!

At Doylestown Dental, our goal is to help children enjoy a happy life free of dental problems.

We go out of our way to make your child’s visits fun and enjoyable so that taking care of their smile is something they want to do, not something they are forced to do.

As the parents of three active children, Doylestown dentists Dr. Maryann Jacko and Dr. Jonathan Siefker know that little kids need to be approached with their unique needs in mind. Our goal is to create positive experiences for your child because we know these visits set the stage for a lifetime of proactive oral health care.

Your Child’s First Visit

The American Dental Association recommends that kids first visit the dentist when baby teeth begin to appear, but no later than age one. They typically don’t have any pressing dental needs at this age, so you may wonder why these early visits are recommended. Here's why:

Although baby teeth will be lost, they play a critical role in your child’s dental development. Even as baby teeth emerge, adult teeth are already developing in the gums. Baby teeth guide these teeth into proper position by holding a place for permanent teeth to erupt correctly.

However, if a baby tooth is lost to decay before it's time for it to come out naturally, adjacent teeth start to drift into the empty space. When primary teeth are ready to emerge, there may not be enough space for them to grow in properly. This can cause crowding, which can eventually lead to alignment problems and other oral health concerns.

We Provide a Positive Experience

The optimal time to start bringing your child in for visits is when they aren’t experiencing any problems.

Dr. Jacko and Dr. Siefker understand that new experiences can be stressful for little kids who aren’t sure what’s happening to them. So don’t be embarrassed if your child doesn’t behave perfectly at every visit.

Our approach is to immerse your child slowly in the experience by giving them a ride in the dental chair, counting their teeth, and showing them some of our instruments. When we take advantage of your child’s natural curiosity, we can help them get excited about their dental care!

Preventive Services for a Problem-Free Smile

We won’t overwhelm your child with treatment during their first visits, but we do need to take steps to ensure a healthy smile.

During your child’s exams, our doctors may determine that your child would benefit from a topical fluoride application. This is a valuable preventive treatment that ensures your child’s teeth stay strong and healthy.

Sealants are another treatment that can help protect your child’s teeth from cavities. Fluoride protects the enamel, but teeth like molars and premolars have deep grooves and uneven surfaces, making them difficult to clean properly. A sealant is a thin coating of plastic material that is applied to the surface of these teeth to provide a barrier for bacteria that cause decay.
